Mt. Rushmore and the way home

After reluctantly leaving Grand Teton National Park we headed east toward South Dakota and Mount Rushmore National Memorial.  On our way out of Wyoming we encountered a long stretch of road construction and marveled at the skill and planning needed to undertake such a project. Continue reading

Grand Tetons National Park

Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Parks are set one right south of the other but the feel is very different between them.  The Grand Tetons’ area is only about a seventh of what Yellowstone covers; however, it receives almost the same number of visitors that Yellowstone receives on any given day and although the Grand Tetons is also a civilized park with roads, gas stations and lodges; overall it feels much quieter. From Juneau to Yellowstone

Our flight back from Wrangell to Seattle had an 8-hour lay-over in Juneau and we were excited about the extra time in Alaska.  We took a city bus from the airport down to the harbor.  Although we feel it gave us a true perspective of city life, we would have been better off renting a car at the airport for the day since the bus ride took an entire hour of our limited time. How I Got Over my Fear of Bears

We hated to leave Gustavus but we were scheduled on an afternoon flight to Wrangell which we had chartered thru Sunrise Aviation. Our pilot, Steve, arrived just in time to pick us up and we boarded immediately.
